Dr. Michelle S. Johnson will be discussing the "Great Michigan Read" pick X: A Novel by Ilyasah Shabazz and Kekla Magoon. Join us as we explore the Michigan roots of one of the most influential leaders of the twentieth century with Dr. Michelle S. Johnson, Public Scholar in the Fields of African American History, Literature, and Cultural Production. In her lecture, X: A Novel and Reclaiming Michigan's Son, Johnson will highlight the role of Ingham County and surrounding areas, Kalamazoo and Detroit as places of distinct influence for Malcolm X Shabazz. She places the novel in the setting of initiatives in the state that honor, memorialize and mark the life and places that helped shape Malcom Little X Shabazz.
