The Detroit Public Library, encouraged by the positive
response to this annual publication, continues the tradition
of the African American Booklist for 2008. This bibliography
provides a selected list of books by and/or about African
Americans. This booklist includes fiction and non-fiction
for adults, children and young adults reviewed and recommended
by librarians of the Detroit Public Library.
The 2008 edition takes you back on a historic journey
over the last 40 years of African American Literature.
The booklist began in February of 1926 to commemorate
“Negro History Week.” Since that time, the
African American Booklist has continued to highlight
the accomplishments of African Americans in the literary
world and has become an annual tradition in the community.We
