The Detroit Public Library, encouraged by the positive response to this annual publication, continues the tradition of the African American Booklist for 2008. This bibliography provides a selected list of books by and/or about African Americans. This booklist includes fiction and non-fiction for adults, children and young adults reviewed and recommended by librarians of the Detroit Public Library.

The 2008 edition takes you back on a historic journey over the last 40 years of African American Literature. The booklist began in February of 1926 to commemorate “Negro History Week.” Since that time, the African American Booklist has continued to highlight the accomplishments of African Americans in the literary world and has become an annual tradition in the community. We hope you enjoy your 2008 edition of the Detroit Public Library’s African American Booklist.

Coming soon, pick up your copy of your 2008 African American Booklist at any DPL location.
