Noontime Concerts
at the Detroit Public Library - Skillman Branch
Skillman Branch - 121 Gratiot Ave., Detroit, 48226Attention Music Aficionados: Detroit summers are memorable for lots of wonderful outdoor concerts with beautiful music of all genres. As the seasons change, we invite you to come inside and enjoy some great music with us at the Skillman Library’s Noontime Concerts. Breakaway from that ordinary lunchtime routine and join us every third Wednesday of the month from October through April.

Mia Johnson
Mia Johnson has a voice reminiscent of greats like Gladys Knight and Angela Bofill. She is known for her standout performances at Detroit casinos and jazz clubs. Join us for Mia Johnson as she kicks-off our Noontime Concert series.
Kenneth L. Green
One who is dedicated to the preservation of art and creative improvisation, Green brings the avant garde to the Noontime Concert stage. A founding member and artistic director for the Musicolor Composers Collective and Orchestra, Green has toured all over the world with such creative musical giants as: Roscoe Mitchell, James Carter, Allan Barnes, Leroy Jenkins and many others.
Frances Brockington
Last year, Brockington’s beautiful voice filled the Rose Skillman Auditorium with a glorious sound! A Classically trained soprano, and head of the Voice Department at Wayne State University, Brockington’s performance is one you won’t want to miss!
Carl Cafagna’s North Star Saxophone Quartet
Join us for this unique ensemble, featuring four different saxophones played by leading Detroit area musicians. Carl Cafagna will lead the quartet through selections by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, Debussy, Scott Joplin, spirituals, folk songs, and even the Beatles! An entertaining, educational, lunch hour, especially for you.
Thornetta Davis
What can be said about Thornetta except to say whenever she sings, the house and everybody in it ROCKS!! This incredible songstress sings the blues with grit and grace. Halfway into Black History Month, Thornetta brings us her powerful voice to keep the celebration going strong.
Naima Shamborguer
The soul of her vocals reflects Naima’s musical background and training as well as her love for jazz. Her style has been compared to that of Sarah, but her range and versatility place her in a category all her own. Sit back and enjoy her great voice, as Naima takes you on a musical journey.
Linda Johnson
Linda Johnson has a unique voice that you just have to hear for yourself. Her talent, ability and stage presence is what people have raved about throughout her career. Known as a remarkable solo artist, Johnson has expanded her reach as part of the group, “In Harmony” in which she shares a vital lead role. We invite you to come out and join us for our last concert of the season with the beautiful songbird Linda Johnson.
