The National Automotive History Collection documents the history and development of the automobile and other forms of vehicular transportation and is the largest public automotive archive in the world. The collection was established in 1944. It contains over 450,000 processed items and contains files on cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, automotive companies, automotive advertisements biographies, automobile specification and other miscellaneous automotive items. Thousands of automotive photographs, tracing many of the automobiles, social, mechanical and design aspects are available for viewing research and publication.

The Friends of the NAHC receive the journal Wheels: Journal of the National Automotive History Collection and invitations to events in the collection.
