TIP (The Information Place) is a free community information and referral service that helps people find answers to the problems of everyday living. Librarians link individuals to agencies and local nonprofit organizations that offer services such as emergency food, health care, support groups, and parenting education.

Among the resources on which the TIP librarians rely is the TIP Database, a library-maintained resource file of detailed information on human and social services provided to residents of southeast Michigan by over 2,000 agencies and organizations. Many local human service agencies also use the TIP Database via subscription agreements which help defray data maintenance expenses.
Note: The Database can be searched only from computers in Detroit Public Library buildings. Please ask a librarian to log you into the Database.
