To get started, users must install free software.
• For audiobooks - Music, and video: OverDrive® Media Console™.
• To read eBooks - Users will need Adobe® Digital Editions.
Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including iPod®, Sony® Reader™, and many others. Some audio titles can also be burned to CD to listen on-the-go. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!

1. Who can check out eBooks and audiobooks?
Users must have a valid DPL library card. "Valid" means that the card is not expired, banned or subject to the $10 block.
2. How many titles may be checked out?
Two titles may be checked out at the same time.
3. What is the loan period for an eBook or audiobook?
eBooks and audiobooks may be checked out for a loan period of 14 or 21 days. eBooks and audiobooks may not be renewed.
4. Can I download an eBook or audiobook from a Detroit Public Library computer?
eBooks and audiobooks can only be downloaded by remote users. Downloads must be to the customer's own device. However, DPL customers may use DPL's Wi-Fi hubs to connect their devices to the DPL's OverDrive eBook website.
5. What types of devices are compatible with OverDrive?

6. Does the Detroit Public Library lend eBook readers?
The Detroit Public Library does not lend eBook readers at this time.
7. Do I need to set up a separate account with OverDrive?
